CTAG verification form is updated

The CTAG Verification Form has been revised. The new version contains updates to the available list of (CT)² program areas. Also, a link to the list of mailing addresses for the form has been added. The list of mailing addresses can be found in the “Basic Information” section of the (CT)² website under the “(CT)² Verification Form Information” header.

This form is to be used for students who completed approved Career-Technical courses and/or programs in order to verify their completion of the learning outcomes and to receive recommended credit and/or course equivalency at Ohio’s public colleges/universities.

The statewide guarantee of credit transfer applies only when the career-technical institution has an approved program/course and the college/university offers the chosen technology. Students are responsible for providing proof of credentials and licenses.

Ohio launches college resource

The Ohio Board of Regents has launched a new website designed to support students and families plan for college. Ohio Means Success offers information about the college admission process, earning college credit in high school, transfer credit policies, opportunities for veterans and options for adult students with significant family obligations.

Teachers needed for assessment writing

College and secondary CTE faculty are invited to participate in item writing meetings for the new technical assessments in the Career Fields of health, law & public safety, information technology, engineering, manufacturing and construction. Call for Writers information

The goal is to create test item banks in February, March, April, and May to support end-of-course testing scheduled to begin fall 2014. Two 2-day workshops by pathway will be held at CETE in Columbus between February and May 2013. Workshops will consist of two days one week, and two days during an alternate week.

Cincinnati State offers Middletown campus tuition break

A tuition grant has been implemented by Cincinnati State for residents of Butler, Warren, Montgomery and Preble Counties who attend the Middletown branch campus.

Students residing in these counties and enrolled in a certificate or degree program may be eligible for as much as $1,500 in grants during their first year. The Success Partners grant has just been extended through 2013–applying to current high school seniors. For information about the grant, contact the Office of Admission, (513) 705-1604.

UC Blue Ash adds new program options

University of Cincinnati Blue Ash has added two programs that align with high school career tech business pathways: Administrative Management: Meeting/Event Planning and Administrative Management: Administrative Support.

Up to four classes may be articulated; credits range from six – 12 hours. Business teachers who would like to articulate with UC Blue Ash should contact Terry Benedict. A secondary POS and syllabus will be requested. Curriculum and program information is here.

Cincinnati State offers medical terminology test/credit

Tech Prep Cincinnati Area is coordinating medical terminology testing for students in health programs that articulate with Cincinnati State and UC Blue Ash. Cincinnati State instructor Daphne Robinson will visit Tech Prep health programs to administer the test to seniors who would like to pursue credit by examination options. Miami waives admission/test-out fees

Tech Prep students seeking admission from Miami University Regionals do not have to pay fees for application and credit by examination.

The $35 application fee can be waived if a letter from the Tech Prep teacher accompanies the paper application verifying student enrollment in a Tech Prep program. (If the student fills out the application online they will be forced to pay the $35 fee for it to come through, so they need to use the paper one or print it from the college website).

Student can also apply for Tech Prep scholarships. Available awards vary by Hamilton and Middletown campus. Students must complete the regular scholarship application either online or on paper by the March 15 deadline.

Students are encouraged to seek information from their program teacher on the existing articulation agreements for each academic area. If the agreement offers a test-out option to receive credit, the fee for the exam will be waived for students seeking credit. Information on setting up the examination will be directed through the departments granting credit.

IT team earns senate accolades

A week after the election, the Ohio Senate got back to the business of recognizing Butler Tech/Ross High School’s SAGE Team accomplishments.

Tom O’Neill’s class team placed second at the International SAGE World Cup with their IT Company – Alpha Technologies. The team previously placed first at the national SAGE competition in the Socially Responsible Business Category.

Ohio Senator William P. Coley, II of the 4th Senate District recognized the SAGE team’s achievements during the Nov. 14 session of the Ohio General Assembly. Troy Beebe accepted the senate resolution honoring his team’s achievement on the international stage. Team members Michael Kimble, Andrew Scheffler and David Shumate were also recognized.

Most college placement tests provide only a single score indicating a specific level at which a student demonstrates proficiency for a particular subject area such as Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra, Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills, etc. Institutions establish cut-scores that new students must meet in order to be placed in various levels of coursework.
