Educators Gather to Tackle Readiness

Eighty educators gathered at UC Raymond Walters College September 17 to discuss college transition and launch a College Readiness Initiative targeted to Tech Prep junior and senior high school students.

William Russell, Vice Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, joined UC Raymond Walters Dean Cady Short-Thompson to set the tone for sessions focused on college academic expectations, placement testing, remediation resources and strategies.

Pete Haverkos, Miami University Hamilton; Barbara Wallace, UC Clermont College; Soni Hill and Carolyn Kelley, Cincinnati State; Tim Osborne and Amy Haller, ACT Testing; Amy Williamson, A+dvancer Online; and Chris Spurlock, Plato Learning Systems, were featured speakers.

Consortium staff detailed plans to implement a college placement testing program targeted to Tech Prep juniors and seniors. A transition coordinator will be employed at each high school.  Competitive grants will support partnerships to design and deliver appropriate remediation.
